Gardening isn’t just about growing plants — it’s about nurturing wellbeing. Spending time outdoors, connecting with nature, and watching something you’ve cared for flourish can bring deep satisfaction and peace of mind. At Enerst Care, we recognise that gardening is more than a hobby; it’s therapy for the body and soul.
1. Start Small and Simple
If you’re new to gardening or getting back into it, begin with something manageable. A few flower pots, a small herb garden, or a raised bed can be just as rewarding as a full garden. Simple success builds confidence — and soon, you’ll be growing even more.
2. Choose Low-Maintenance Plants
Select plants that are easy to care for and resilient in all seasons. Herbs like rosemary and mint, flowers like lavender and geraniums, or hardy vegetables like lettuce and tomatoes thrive with minimal effort. These also add beautiful scents and colours to your garden.
3. Prioritise Comfort and Safety
Gardening should be enjoyable, not exhausting. Use lightweight tools with soft grips, invest in a comfortable kneeling pad, and take regular breaks. Raised garden beds are perfect for reducing strain on the knees and back, keeping gardening accessible for everyone.
4. Stay Hydrated and Sun Safe
Even in mild weather, gardening can be surprisingly draining. Drink plenty of water, wear a hat, and use sunscreen. Try to garden during cooler hours — early morning or late afternoon — to avoid overheating.
5. Make It Social
Gardening is more fun when shared. Join a local gardening group or invite friends and family to help. At Enerst Care, we encourage our clients to take part in shared outdoor activities — whether tending to a garden, planting flowers, or simply enjoying a cup of tea among the greenery.
Our Support
Many of our carers at Enerst Care love gardening too. We can support you or your loved one in maintaining a garden safely — from watering and light weeding to planting new flowers that brighten the day.Because when we care for nature, it has a beautiful way of caring for us in return.
